Hey guys! Welcome to your online snowboard camp. Today we’re going to learn how to hit a jump. Learning to jump is the first step to learning how to ride park, and other tricks on your snowboard. Follow these tips, and it will keep you landing on your feet. When jumping, we want to make sure that we can control our speed, have a level pop off our board, are balanced in the air, and have a solid landing.
You control your speed by turning up to the jump. When you have your speed right, start to point your board straight and flat toward the jump. When you point your board straight it’s important that your knees are bent and your hands are over your board. You want to jump on your board, the same way you would jump on the ground. With your knees bent, hands at your sides and your feet, knees, hips, and shoulders all lined up. Now you’re set up for the jump.
As you get to the lip of the jump, do a small pop even off both feet to get air. Suck your knees up go for a grab. By sucking your knees up it keeps you compact in the air and in control. Popping and bending your knees also give you more height off the jump. More height, gives you more time in the air to go for a grab, and time to spot your landing.
When you’re in the air, start to spot your landing. You also want to bend your knees, so you can absorb that landing. Bending your knees helps you stay in control when you land. Plan which way you are going to turn after you land. I prefer a heel turn because you can see any obstacles or bumps that might be around. Have fun jumping, and I’ll see you in the park!
