How to Heel Slide – Beginner Snowboard Tutorial Video
In this beginner series video I’ll show you how to heel slide on your snowboard. The heel slide is the first thing to practice with both feet strapped into your snowboard. Heel Sliding allows you to control your speed on the slope. It also allows you to travel from one side of the run to the other. Before trying to heel slide make sure you’ve watched the videos on how to skate and how to get off a chairlift.
To start your snowboard sliding lift your toe edge up away from the snow. The closer your edge to the snow the faster you will slide, the more you lift your toes the slower you will go. You want to find that spot where you can lift your toes and slide smoothly.
While sliding keep your knees and hips bent with your back straight, and head up. This will keep your weight in the center of the snowboard.
Keep your hands at your side and shoulders facing the bottom of the slope, this will keep your snowboard sliding straight.
Slide to the left by point your left hand down and to the left, putting a little more weight on your left foot. To change directions start pointing to the right, and put a little more weight on your right foot. To slide straight put equal weight on each foot, and square your shoulders to the bottom of the slope.
Practice heel slide until your comfortable controlling your speed and travelling back and forth across the hill. In the next beginner series video I’ll l show you how to slide on your toes, which is the final step before turning on your snowboard.

How to Get Off the Chairlift – Snowboard Tutorial Video
This video will give you some tips for getting off a chairlift on your snowboard. Getting off a Chairlift for the first time can be a challenge, but if you do a few things on your snowboard to prepare, the chairlift can be easy. You have to ride the chairlift with only one foot strapped into your snowboard. So before you get on the chairlift you can practice your one foot snowboarding down a short hill.
The first step is to find a hill to practice your one foot snowboarding. You want a very short, gentle slope that flattens out at the bottom.
With one foot strapped in turn and point your snowboard downhill. Next place your free foot in the center of your board against your back binding. Pushing your foot against your binding will keep your foot from sliding off the snowboard.
As your snowboard begins to move keep yourself balanced with your knees bent, back straight and head looking where you want to go.
Your hands should be over the nose and tail of your snowboard. This will keep your board pointed in a straight line.
Once you’ve reach the bottom of the slope, stop yourself by placing your free foot halfway off the board, and drag your toe in the snow.
Practices riding with one foot until you have it dialed, and then you’ll be ready for the chairlift. Standing up with your free foot against your binding, knees bend, back straight, hands over your snowboard, dragging your toe in the snow to come to a stop.

How to Skate on a Snowboard – Tutorial Video
Tips on how to skate on a snowboard. Skating is the first thing you want to learn how to do on your snowboard. It gets you to and from the chairlift and around the any flat areas at the mountain.
To Skate strap your front foot into your snowboard, and push you snowboard along with your free foot. Start by skating with your free foot behind your snowboard. As you skate keep most of your weight on your free foot, this will keep your snowboard from sliding away from you. You can also dig your heel edge in a bit, to help stop your snowboard from sliding away.
You can also skate with your free foot in front of your snowboard. Again keep most of your weight on your free foot this time digging your toe edge a bit. It’s your preference whether skate with your free foot in front or behind your snowboard.
You can also walk your snowboard up hills. First place your snowboard across the hill. Start with your free foot in front of your snowboard. Walk up the hill lifting your board and digging your toe edge into the snow to hold you board in place.

How to Hit a Jump – Snowboard Tutorial Video
Tip help you hit a jump in and out of the park. Learning to hit a jump is the first step to riding park, and learning tricks.
To start you want find a jump to practice on, where you are comfortable with the amount of air, and confident you’re going to make the landing. From jumping off the slope, small jumps in the park, to larger jumps, find the right size jump for your ability.
As you ride into hit a jump do a few turns, to set your speed. You want to have enough speed to clear the knuckle of the jump, but not too much or you’ll pass the tranny and land flat. Once you have your speed right point your board straight and flat toward the lip.
As you get to the lip of the jump, pop your board into the air by jumping level from your flat base. Or you can pop a clean ollie. Getting a level pop will keep you balanced in the air. To keep you board straight in the air, make sure your back hand is over your tail, and your shoulders are parallel to your board.
In the air suck your knees up to keep yourself compact and balanced. This will also make it easy to go for a grab.
Spot your landing from in the air, and prepare to bend your knees to absorb the landing and ride away clean. I like to plan a heel turn after landing to control my speed and I can see any obstacles that may be in the landing.
To recap how to hit a jump. First find a jump that you’re comfortable with, do a few turns on the ride in to set your speed, pop your board level into the air from a flat base, suck your knees up, spot the landing and prepare to bend your knees to ride it out clean.
