How to Backside Lipslide Snowboarding – Tutorial Video
In this video I’m going to teach you how to do Back Lipslide. Back lips are a super stylish rail tricks and one of the more advanced tricks in the park. I’m going to break down each part of the Back lip, give you tips to complete each part successfully and show you all the skills needed to prepare for this trick.
To start ride in with your board straight and parallel to the rail. As you get close to the rail get onto your heel edge to angle your board towards the rail. Riding in parallel to the rail will keep your momentum going straight all the way to the end. Practice backside 5050’s on rails first to get used to the approach and riding rails to the end.
Pop a clean ollie to get on the rail with your back foot going up and over. It’s important to pop a big enough ollie so you don’t hit the rail with your board. Practice getting on a rail by first doing backside 5050‘s, then when you’re comfortable you can add in the back lip.
To get your board sideways separate you lower body from your upper body. Get your board across the rail by bending you front leg as you extend your back leg out. Counter your back foot by reaching your back hand out and looking your head down to the end of the rail. You can practice this twisting motion by doing backside shifty’s in the air and front boards on boxes and rails.
Stay balanced on the rail by keeping your weight centered over your snowboard. Too much weight over your toes or heels will cause you to slide out. Practice board slides and lipslide on an easy down boxes first to get comfortable staying balance with your snowboard flat on the feature.
Land the back lip by untwisting your body as you come off the rail. You can also continue turning in the direction of your back foot and come off the rail switch.
There are many skills that come together to complete this trick. Take the time to master each skill then put them together in your back lipslide. Build up to advance features by first mastering back lips on easy ones, increasing the difficulty as you progress.
